The Playlist: Eu Amo Lisboa

Olá amigos! I'd like to say we're back and better than ever, but we're just back. I mean maybe Jen is "better than ever," but for me, the jetlag struggle is REAL, and I'm in the denial stage of grief over my long-awaited vacation being over SO FRIGGIN FAST.

Of course, our little jaunt to the Iberian Peninsula was spectacular. We have so many stories to tell you and photos of food to share (obviously). Lisbon was impossibly gorgeous, and Madrid was a tapas wonderland.

Sometimes I think the return to reality is so bad, it's almost worth not going on vacation at all (this, of course, is an absurd American way of thinking). So to make this Monday more palatable while Jen and I tackle the abominations that are our work inboxes, I'm making it a music Monday and sharing the sounds of Lisbon with you.

Just so you know, the sounds of Lisbon are not what you would think. Sure, there is the traditional fado music, which we will write more about later on, but Lisbon oddly has a thing for covers and retro American music. We heard so many random covers while we were there. Naturally, I couldn't Shazam them without wifi to find out the singers of said covers, but on our first day we noticed a very odd mix of music coming from taxi cabs, bars and restaurants, and other random spots. And despite the lack of sleep, we had the presence of mind to make a note of the songs we knew. We did the same in Madrid and the list is equally funny so keep an eye out for that coming soon.

Behold, the music of Lisbon*.

Us looking adoringly at the fado singer who got cut off because the waiter understandably didn't comprehend why the fuck we were posing that way.

*Since this is a Spotify playlist, it doesn't include one Ms. Queen T. Swift, who we heard a lot of. Which is fine, because I can just include covers of her songs and that will be in the true spirit of Lisbon. Speaking of T-Swizzle and her reign of terror, while I had wifi, I briefly saw a headline about her "throne of lies crumbling beneath her." Anyone care to fill me in? That and Drake's awesome "Hotline Bling" cha cha are about the only bits of American pop culture news that reached me in the last two weeks (#blessed).
