Lisbon: #TBT Sintra & Cascais
As I mentioned earlier this week in the crankiest post of all time, Jen and I took a day trip to the Sintra mountains outside of Lisbon. Apparently Sintra is considered a very romantic spot and British people take their honeymoons there. So naturally, Jen and I had to make it part of our trip. <3
You might not be surprised to hear that I don't necessarily see this as an ideal honeymoon spot, but it is pretty magical despite the altitude sickness. The castles are CRAZY. Palacio de Pena looks like it was put together by some kid cracked out on sugar wearing a Burger King crown who read too many fairy tales and was like "I want my castle to be red and yellow and blue and have tiles and zig zags and all styles of architecture ever created." And Quinta la Regaleira looks like a straight up haunted mansion. They even had banners for a vampire exhibit...but for some reason it ended in September. I guess Halloween isn't that big of a deal there.
After exploring the castles in Sintra, we drove past a Moorish Castle that I'm glad we didn't visit because it looked like it was at the highest point in all the land and I am obviously a wimp because I already couldn't breathe. We also drove past Monserrate and then visited the Western-most point in Europe. Finally, we rounded out the day at a place called Hell's Mouth, which apparently has some massive waves (though we didn't see any) and then took a walk around the beaches of Cascais.
Enjoy the gorgeous views!
