The Beach: #TBT Rehoboth
Staci may love Ocean City, but my heart will always belong to Rehoboth.
Around the time I was born, my grandparents bought a beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Even before my existence, my family visited Rehoboth on a fairly regular basis. So it makes sense that growing up, all of our summer vacation days were spent at the beach, eating Grotto and running around Funland (in that order). Besides honing my skills at muffin pan ball tosses and hitting rubber frogs into moving lily pads, I also learned that crabs aren't spiders (no matter how hard my grandfather tried to convince me otherwise) and that I can't spend more than 10 minutes away from an umbrella without turning into a lobster (a lesson I repeatedly forget).
Although I'm now a five-hour drive to Rehoboth (instead of the previous two-hour drive in Maryland), I've managed to make the trip down a few times a year. I've even brought some friends along and introduced them to some of my favorite places like Ed's Chicken & Crabs (casual BYOB seafood feast!), Dogfish Head (best craft brewery around), and Henlopen Oyster House (amazing oysters, duh!). Plus, who can resist the TAX-FREE shopping? Oh, hello, Under Armour Outlet.
Two years ago my parents bought their own beach house which introduced me to a whole new area of Rehoboth including a beautiful scenic bike trail and Cape Henlopen State Park.
Even though the town has expanded and developed over the years, it still has a little of its original beach town charm. It's a beautiful, fun and relaxing part of the union's first state. I can't wait to go back in a few weeks with my friends and get my sunburn beach on!
