NYC: Island Getaway

When most people hear Long Island, they think of an unfortunate drink and Lindsay Lohan. OK, maybe that's just me. 

I tend to forget that Long Island also has miles of beautiful beach coastline. A few summers ago, my friend Cat and I decided to have a "Summer of George" and made our way to Long Beach nearly every weekend. Since this summer has been mostly filled with training runs and trips to Delaware, I haven't had much of a chance to experience the beaches of New York. Thankfully, I rectified that right quick during the "last days of summer" -- Labor Day weekend.

My friends Ang and Anabelle joined me on a late-day adventure out to Long Beach filled with seaweed (literally -- the ocean was filled with it) and lots of edible fish (Goldfish, Swedish fish and the like). Since it's 95 degrees here in NYC today, I'm thinking that summer is going to stick around for a while longer. Hopefully I'll have another chance to get out to the beach before Mother Nature changes her mind!
