The Playlist: Podcasts That Aren't Political

We here at HTJL are no strangers to a good podcast. Unfortunately, our faves have been somewhat of a bummer lately due to coverage of one sentient racist Cheeto who shall not be named.

While I totally understand the need to talk about said Cheeto, sometimes I just want to escape into something else during my commute. Here are a few great podcasts to get your mind off society's impending doom (at least for 45 minutes).

The Sporkful

Are you obsessed with food, but don't identify as an obnoxious foodie? Then this podcast is for you! With episode topics ranging from truffles to pie-eating-cats to cooking in war zones, The Sporkful has you covered.

Why Oh Why

Do you wish that Mindy Kaling had written the Aziz Ansari book, Modern Romance? Then you'd love Andrea Silenzi's Why Oh Why? Andrea speaks with friends, experts, and guys in bars about where love and sex meets tech. Her approach is fiction meets interview meets memoir meets #BossLady awesomeness.

Between the Liner Notes

This award-winning documentary-style podcast focuses on music in ways different than HTJL fave, Switched On Pop. Instead of focusing soley on songs, it looks at the music industry with topics like Lou Pearlman + boy bands, the Beatnick folk movement, and the history of New Orleans jazz. If you're a music and history nerd (points finger at self), this one's for you.

Bitch Sesh: A Real Housewives Breakdown

I'm not all history and food -- I'm a well-rounded human who loves herself some Bravo. This is basically the audio version of The People's Couch meets NYMag's snarky Real Housewives recaps. I'm obsessed.

How Did This Get Made?

I've already talked about HDTGM before, but it bears repeating because it's fucking awesome. The theme song alone just makes me happy, and the recent Vampire's Kiss episode had me laughing so hard I was crying...on the subway. Nic Cage has that effect on me.

What are you listening to for maximum distraction?
