The Playlist: Oh, Canada!
Anyone who knew me in college knows that I was bratty little scene kid who thought she knew more about music than she actual did. I apologize.
I blame Friendster Myspace art school.
Well, if you you managed to not be annoyed long enough to hang around me during that period (and even accompanied me to a concert or two!) then you're definitely going to be familiar with my playlist that I made in honor of our trip this week up north.
I'll be honest, I wasn't really sure where to start. I didn't think that I listened to any Canadian bands besides Arcade Fire. Wow. I was so, so wrong.
Apparently, nearly every band I held near and dear to my heart in college (except for Elliot Smith, Cat Power, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Bright Eyes...yeah...I was that kid) were from Canada! Thanks to Spotify's "related artists" tab, I quickly learned that many of my favorites like Metric, Tegan and Sara, Feist, and Unicorns were, in fact, Canucks! (I also found out that Neil Young and Joni Mitchell also hail from up north [who knew?], but since they weren't in my college rotation, I left them out.) I included a few other nostalgia kicks from even further back (high school). You'll know them when you hear them :)
I'll definitely be jamming out to these throwbacks on the plane while playing snood and waiting to see who's on AIM.
