Pennsylvania: TBT: A Long Weekend in the Poconos
Staci's Deep Creek Lake getaway reminded me of a nature-filled long weekend I had a few years back in the Poconos. My boyfriend Mike had planned a beautiful B&B getaway in the Pocono Mountains for my birthday. Unfortunately, the trip was scheduled to take place just a few days after Hurricane Sandy hit. With the power out in our apartment and our electronics without any charge, we had no idea if the getaway would still happen. Luckily, it went off without any major hitches, with the exception of finding a rental car. That took hours and cost hundreds because gas stations and rental car offices were still inoperable.
Eventually we were on our way to a lovely bed and breakfast (this was before the era of Airbnb). We arrived, and at dinner with the hosts, we planned out some hiking trails for the following day. Having never been to the Poconos region before, I wasn't sure what to expect, especially after a major hurricane. Luckily, they weren't hit as hard as NYC, so most of the trails were still open. Over the next couple of days, we hiked to waterfalls, walked along boarded pathways, ran to the top of trails overlooking the Delaware River, and drove through the cute surrounding towns.
Check out my little getaway to the Poconos!
