All Over: Cherry Blossom Bonanza
Anyone with an Instagram account can tell you that right now is peak cherry blossom. Not just on the East Coast, but all over the world.
Here are my top picks for where to check out the blooms and festivals:
Washington, D.C.
This one began back in 1912 when Japan gifted the States 3,000 blossoms. Thanks, Japan! With tons of events like Food Tours, a Kite Festival, a 10-mile race, and a parade, there's something for everyone.
Main area: Tidal Basin
Brooklyn Botanical Garden
Nothing like a little hometown pride. :)
Considering this one is just a mile away from me, there's really no excuse for me not to go. The two day event with dancing, martial arts demonstrations, tea ceremonies, cosplay, and tons of manga workshops, this one is not to be missed.
Main area: Cherry Esplanade
Bonn, Germany
You might not think of Germany when you think of cherry blossoms, but you should! The narrow streets and alleyways of Bonn are turned into gorgeous pink tunnels when the trees are in peak bloom. Once the flowers fall, the cobblestone streets are dusted in a blanket of pink. There's nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
Main area: All around Bonn
Amsterdam
Looking for a more low-key festival? Check out Amsterdam's with family picnics and traditional Japanese ceremonies.
Main area: Amsterdamse Bos
Tokyo
Since they originated here, Japan obviously has the most festivals in the world. Between Kyoto, Tokyo, Asukayama Park, and the Meguro River, there are tons of locations (and tours!) to catch the blooms.
Main area: Various
Pro tip: The blossoms are only in bloom for a couple weeks, so hurry!
Happy Spring y'all!
