The Beach: 60th Birthday Surprise (AKA 24 Hours at the Beach)

Since I spent the last two months working non-stop, I was unable to attend my mother's 60th birthday party with friends and family. Yes, I know, I am a garbage human. I blame MTV.

Anyway, I attempted to make it up to her by surprising her with a trip to the beach house. I fully decorated the house with signs, paper goods and gifts. She walked in and was confused AF. In fact, she asked my dad if she had left the decorations up herself. Sigh.

Birthday girl, dad, aunt and uncle

Besides that, the weekend was great! More on that in later posts. In the meantime, here's how how I spent 24 hours alone in Rehoboth before my parents arrived.

Outlet Shopping

Yes, obviously I wouldn't go to the beach and just go shopping, but since you're in tax-free Delaware, you might as well enjoy the awesome deals you can get at shops like Nike, Under Armor, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Coach, North Face and so, so many others! I left with a few bags of workout clothes and basically a new fall wardrobe.

Boardwalk + Dinner

After a long drive and an hour of shopping, I was hungry, so I set out to the main drag to grab some fries and a lobster roll before taking a stroll on the beach and boardwalk. The sunset was awesome.

Morning Hike

There are a few places to hike around Rehoboth and Dewey, but theres a super quick trail that runs through my parents' neighborhood along the canal. It's filled with wildlife like herons, turtles and, of course, mosquitoes.

Breakfast Al Fresco

I don't know why, but for me food always tastes better when I'm eating it outside in beautiful weather. So, I headed out for breakfast at the nearby pastry/breakfast shop called The Point. Their choices for size in iced coffee are large and extra large, so you know they're legit.

Beach

Duh! For the beach, I usually head over to Dewey because it's less crowded than Rehoboth. During the offseason, it doesn't matter quite as much, but parking is still easier.

Pool

Ok, this is pretty specific to wherever you're staying in Rehoboth, but for me, that means access to a pool (yay!). I was only out for an hour or two, but it's nice to just sit and read without screaming babies, sand, and crabs.

Drinks!

Ok, so technically this was immediately after my parents arrived, but it still counts since it was within the 24-hour period. There's a new brewery by the house that you can bike to and get many, many flights of beer.

How would you spend 24 hours at the beach alone?
