The Packing List: Playa Del Carmen Gear
As we did the last time we went to Mexico, Mike and I are going prepared. Prepared for what you ask? NATURE.
Though no one really mentions Zika anymore, it’s unfortunately still very much a thing. That’s why we’re packing a quarter of a suitcase with repellents and creams. After all, with half of our hotel facing the jungle and a lagoon bisecting the property, there’s bound to be some insects flying around.
Danger is lurking.
Here’s what is coming with us:
Amazon, $8.59
DEET Value Pack
You can never have too much of this out there. I know its not great for you, but if the alternative is Zika and 100 bites, I’m going with the toxins.
Amazon $10.97
Clothing Insect Repellent
Again, this stuff will basically destroy your clothes (hence the not-great quality wardrobe we’re packing). BUT, it did a great job in protecting us from bugs back in 2016.
Amazon $14.75
Mosquito Repellent Bracelet
This one is new for us, but I’m hoping it’s the extra thing we need to keep the bites at bay. Has anyone used these before?
Amazon $6.46
Cortizone
I think we can all assume we’ll get at least one bite during our week in Mexico. For my money, nothing works better than Cortizone for relieving the itch and shrinking bites.
Besides bugs, we’ll also be warding off the harsh rays of the sun. Like last time, we are only wearing biodegradable sunscreen in order to protect the reef. Here’s what we’re bringing on that front:
Amazon $16.95
Amazon $10
Biodegradable Sunscreen
Still strong enough to protect against the sun and no melt-off with sweat.
Aloe
Let’s face it, I’m still bound to get burnt. Gotta bring some trusty aloe with me.
Anything we’re missing?
