All Over: Flying During A Pandemic
I know this is an unpopular opinion among some crowds, but we’re still in the middle of a pandemic. Yes, there are vaccines, but infection rates are high and hospital cases are climbing. Thanks, Delta.
That said, I’ve known several people who have safely taken small domestic trips this year (including Staci!), so Mike and I are setting out for a long weekend getaway to Asheville, NC. It’s just a 2-hour flight from Newark, and we’ll be eating, drinking, and hiking outside and away from crowds (as much as possible) while we’re there.
I’m less nervous about our time there than our time on the plane. An enclosed space…potential for antimaskers and antivaxxers…NO THANK YOU.
Yes, I know that airlines have strict mask mandates and my friends who’ve flown have had great experiences and none of contracted COVID. Plus, according to the CDC, most viruses don’t spread easily on flights because of how air circulates and is filtered on airplanes. Airplanes have HEPA filters and clean outdoor air as well as recirculated air passed through them.
However, I wouldn’t be Leslie’s daughter without preparing for the absolute worst. In that spirit, here’s what we’re packing for the plane:
So if you’re not vaccinated but you’re able to be, please go get vaccinated so we can go back to the times when traveling was just a regular amount of awful! And you know, stop COVID.
