Madrid: #TBT Holy Toledo
On our first full day in Spain, Jen and I took a day trip to Toledo. We'll tell you more about the day trip in detail soon (there was a wine tasting, there was a cat, and there were swords), but for now, we wanted to share with you just how gorgeous Toledo is.
It's about an hour drive outside of Madrid, in a mountainous/hilly area, and the views of it and from it are incredible. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the fact that Christians, Muslims, and Jews spent a good amount of time living together in the small city in peace (until the Spanish inquisition, si claro). The city produces swords, an intricate gold-threaded style of craft called mosquino, and marzipan. Yes, marzipan. All year-round. Apparently marzipan saved them from a famine. Crafty nuns.
Enjoy the spectacular vistas of Toledo and stay tuned in the coming weeks for more tales of our trip to the Iberian Peninsula!
