The Menu: Bmore Outside

Welp, it's official. Jen the Running Evangelist has convinced me to run a half marathon with her. I'VE JOINED THE DARK SIDE.

Yep, I'm drinkin' that.

Yep, I'm drinkin' that.

Come cheer us on scrape me up off the ground at the Navy Half Marathon in D.C. next month!

What this means is I've been spending a lot of time running the city streets, making the most of the summer weather by being outside. I've also been blatantly glaring at normal people who make the most of the summer weather outside by spending their evenings sipping cocktails at happy hour al fresco.

Despite running through waves of Inner Harbor stench, I've noticed that Baltimore has its moments. So if, like me, you want to be outside as much as possible before the polar vortex comes and plagues us all with seasonal depression, try some of these spots for dining outside.

This is one of the spots I'm talking about when I say I glare at happy people at their happy happy hours while I huff and puff and shuffle my way past. This used to be some awful bar (not unlike most of the bars in Fells Point) taking up some prime real estate right on the water. Now it's a little classier and, more importantly, offers a wide array of guacamole, which I am ALL ABOUT. It's a perfect spot for sharing some tacos, sipping some margaritas, and people-watching the, um, eclectic residents of Fells Point.

THE BOATHOUSE

This is the other spot I pass regularly on my running route, and although it is in walking distance from my house, I hadn't been there since its prior incarnation, Bay Cafe. I always liked Bay Cafe, especially since I drunkenly adopted Edgar there at a charity event, but I must admit, the Boathouse owners really kicked it up a notch. Recently, I met some friends for brunch, and I'd definitely go back. The outdoor area on the Canton marina is much swankier, and the food is phenomenal, if you can't tell from my foodie pics above.

TAPAS ADELA

Salud!

Salud!

Another prime people-watching spot, I never really thought about Tapas Adela as a particularly prominent "outdoor" spot, until earlier this summer when my friends and I parked ourselves there to drink some sangria and watch a shit ton of adults dressed up as pirates. And besides, you know how the Jetlag Hags feel about delicious tapas.

CANTON DOCKSIDE

Old Bay, y'all!

Old Bay, y'all!

I can't make a list of Baltimore restaurants without including a place to get Maryland steamed crabs. Noms, amirite? To be honest, the rest of the food here isn't great, but the crabs are pretty good, it's in walking distance from my house (laziest runner ever), and again, it's on the water. So I'm a fan of Dockside.

WOODBERRY KITCHEN

Like the basic bitch that I am, I love some farm-to-table cuisine and Woodberry Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore. Admittedly, I haven't eaten on their romantic, rustic little patio, probably because I usually visit Woodberry in the winter months, when I am carb-loading in preparation for hibernation. But with the seasonal menu, you really can't go wrong here, and maybe I'll swing a visit to the patio before it gets to chilly.
