En Route: The Smarter Candy Crush

I'll admit it.

Like every other basic asshole, I'm addicted to Candy Crush. Hi, my name is Staci. I'm on Level 1488. I'm not proud. I even made friends with a Japanese man on the way to Tokyo over our shared love of Candy Crush. Candy Crush knows no language barriers.

Konichiwa!

And to be honest, I'm probably not going to stop.

It's a great way to kill time, especially if the current combo of holiday travel + Mercury Retrograde results in you facing inevitable delays on the go (not to mention interminable lines if you're last-minute gift shopping).

But if you want to ease your shame and still kill time with a game, I have one for you that is addictive, educational, AND travel-related.

Unknowingly, earlier this year, I tried to make my own version of this with the Hashtag Jetlag Challenge that literally no one was interested in playing. My boyfriend just introduced me to the more successful, more mobile version of this game -- GeoGuessr

Where am I??

You can play single-player or against friends, and GeoGuessr uses Google Maps to drop you down somewhere in the world. You can "walk around" and try to glean clues from the sights and signs around. You can choose a county or city from all over the world for each round, or you can go with the "Famous Places" game, which I prefer (probably because it is easier).

Here's the tricky part though. When you're ready to make your guess about where you are, you can't just type in "the Eiffel Tower" or "Barcelona." Oh no...you have to find the spot on the map. The closer you are to the exact site, the more points you get.

And if you're like me and Jen when it comes to reading maps...well...

GAME OVER.

So go on, get your geography on. Don't worry -- you'll most definitely beat me.
