NYC: Holiday Staycation 2016
While my holiday plans include a little travel (hello skiing in Vermont to bring in 2017!), for the most part, I'll be staying right here in good 'ol NYC. Like last year, there's still a ton to do if you're staycationing like me.
Deck The Walls
Still need last-minute gifts? Or want to get one for yourself? Ground Floor Gallery's holiday show featuring photos, paintings, ceramics, and jewlery by local artists -- mostly under $100! -- is the perfect place to go. Bonus: it's a women-run business!
Where: 343 5th Street near 5th Avenue (Brooklyn)
When: Dec. 18 - Jan. 1, 6pm-9pm
AN EVEN MORE SPECIAL HAUNTING RENDITIONS HOLIDAY SHOW
If you watch Broad City then you're already familiar with Ilana Glazer's brother, Eliot. Haunting Renditions takes his hit web series (of the same name) and brings it to the stage. Eliot takes infamous pop songs and turns them into highbrow ballads. It's a twisted version of VH1 Storytellers and it's hilarious.
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th St.
When: Dec. 22 (tonight!), 8 pm
Bushwick Creatives Holiday Party
Need more holiday parties on your calendar this year? Check out this one featuring local artists, something called a "live photo experience," and swag bags!
Where: Honey's Bar, 93 Scott Ave. (Bushwick)
When: Dec. 22 (tonight!), 7 pm-1 am
Bar Car Nights at the New York Botanical Garden
Want a drink with your train show? Visit the Botanical Garden at night during their after-hours party complete with ice carving, pop-up acts by famous street performers, live music and spiked hot beverages.
Where: New York Botanical Garden, 2900 Southern Blvd (Bronx)
When: Dec. 23, 30, and Jan. 7, 14, 7-10 pm
NYRR Midnight Run
Run 4 miles at the stroke of midnight on New Years! You'll be surrounded by fellow crazy people and fireworks in Central Park! If I weren't going skiing this year, I'd likely be doing this.
Where: Central Park
When: Dec. 31, 11:59pm
What will you be doing the rest of 2016 (besides continuing to recover from the election like myself)?
