Baltimore: #TBT Deep Creek Lake

Presidents these days may not be good for much, but at least we can still count on them for a long weekend in February. 

My boyfriend and I spent this last Presidents Day weekend in Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland reuniting with a big group of his friends. As I mentioned previously, I've never been to Deep Creek before, and as advertised, for a place only three hours outside of Baltimore, it was very nice. I do suspect however that it is probably much prettier in the spring and summer when everything is green or in the non-globally-warmed winter when it is covered in snow. As it was, we happened to visit on an unseasonably warm brown and muddy weekend.

What this means is we didn't go skiing or snowboarding. We didn't even really go exploring. In fact, we spent a good chunk of time Netflix-and-chilling (new season of Chef's Table, guys!) and just hanging out playing games like Cards Against Humanity (thankfully there is no photographic evidence of this particular CAH session...).

And that THAT all means is I don't have a ton of great photos for you. Whomp whomp. I do, however, have a few suggestions should you visit Deep Creek yourself:

• VRBO was definitely the way to go. All the houses are all rustic and log cabin-y, and ours managed to fit 15 adults and four kiddos.
• Although I can't personally vouch for it, the mountains provide good skiing at Wisp, the local ski resort. We could see many people skiing and snowboarding from the road despite the lack of real snow, and our friends who went the day we arrived said they had a great time.
• We had a great dinner at Mountain State Brewing Co., which also had live music and a bajillion pizzas. The service was honestly beyond slow, but we were also a group of 19, so what can you do.
• Scott and I visited Trader's Coffee House twice for breakfast. Great coffee, delicious pastries, and a cozy setting. Highly recommend.
• It is closed in January and February, but Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is only about an hour away and reopens March 4. Next time we go to Deep Creek, this will be a must-see.
