The Reading List: Staci's Spring 2017 Reads
Well the weather has turned bea-yu-tiful, and I'd love to be taking advantage of it by running around the harbor and basically being as outdoorsy as a city girl gets, but alas, my body is just not having it right now. So this spring, I plan to enjoy the weather by parking it on my patio with some good books.
I also have a couple of trips planned, one to Florida to visit my boyfriend and one to New York. So here are the books that will be keeping me company on the way.
Drop the Ball: Achieving More By Doing Less
I am SO excited about this one. I heard Tiffany Dufu interviewed on one of our favorite podcasts, "Call Your Girlfriend," and she sounds BRILLIANT. Plus, check out that title. Who wouldn't want to get more shit done while doing less? Seriously, sign me up. Dufu is this badass feminist boss lady who has made it her mission to reach as many women in her life as possible. Instant guru status, if you ask me.
The Plot Against America
To be honest, I am not sure my fragile mental state regarding the political health of the world right now can handle this book, but I listened to another podcast fave, "Trumpcast," in which they talked about the eery parallels between our current state of discontent and Roth's imaginary alternate history in which Nazi sympathizer Charles Lindbergh becomes president. Besides, I feel like as a Jew with strong ties to New York, I should have read some Roth by now.
You'll Grow Out of It
As you may have gathered from my deep, deep love of Sloane Crosley, I really like books of essays written by funny New York Women who are a little bit older than I am. Pretty sure I heard about Jessi Klein's new book on another podcast, but I am not sure which. Her comedy cred runs deep; she's currently a writer for "Inside Amy Schumer," and I'm looking forward to this one.
Do Cool Sh*t: Quit Your Day Job, Start Your Own Business, & Live Happily Ever After
In keeping with today's theme, I heard Miki on "Freakonomics," talking about her history of going from a high-powered Wall Street job and a pro soccer career to inventing Thinx...those panties you can supposedly wear without a tampon while you have your period. She sounds super cool and brilliant, and even though she's not a comedy writer or anything like that, I LOL'd more than once during her "Freakonomics" interview, so I'm stoked to check this one out. Besides, who doesn't want to quit work and live happily ever after?
What are you reading this spring?
