Baltimore: Light City

Let's be real -- last April in Baltimore was an unmitigated shitshow. So I'm super pleased that only a year later, Charm City has something to be proud of and something to help it heal. That something was Light City, a week-long festival of art, music, and innovation, the first of its kind in the States (though similar festivals have taken place in other international cities like Sydney). 

Each night for all of last week, Baltimore's Inner Harbor was the setting for live music, performances, and dozens of light art instillations -- all completely free and open to anyone. The week also included "Light City U," a string of conferences on innovation.

Not everyone I talked to was crazy about it, but I loved it. I visited first as part of a fun run that ended there, and then later in the week with friends to take a more thorough look. It made me ridiculously happy to see so many people in good moods filling the Inner Harbor and appreciating art and what is actually a pretty damn gorgeous city. As far as I can tell, it's been way more successful than our joke of a Grand Prix, and I hope it becomes an annual event.

To be honest, my photos don't do it justice, but here's a little taste of Light City. If it happens in 2017, you'll have to come see it for yourself.
